Day 2 - Strategy & Improvement

Welcome to Day 2 of your NPQSL with Inspiring Leaders

The aims of this content area are:

  • To encourage whole school perspectives.
  • To stimulate analysis beyond pupil performance data.
  • To articulate own values.
  • To identify variation in pupil performance and contributing factors.
  • To build awareness and understanding of the effects of stereotyping and inference.
  • To evaluate research into change management.
  • To develop understanding of the need for effective governance.
  • To have clarity of the requirements for final assessment.
  • To plan the application of findings to the design and implementation of their own tasks.

Pre-session Preparation

Task 1: School in a box

Please bring your ‘school in a box’. Think about artefacts, symbols, images, documents, things that make your school what it is.

You can choose the size and shape of the box but it must be a physical box.

Be prepared to share this with colleagues and explain why you have chosen the items you have to explain your school.

Please also explore the area around your school to develop your awareness of your local community and be prepared to share this too.

Task 2: Pupil performance data

Please bring pupil performance data and other evidence on pupil achievement to share with colleagues.

Task 3: Leadership Behaviours

Please invite a colleague to offer his/her own perspective on your leadership behaviours and compare responses. The tool is best used as a series of prompts for discussion. Bring your feedback to Day 2.
