Day 3 - Teaching & Curriculum Excellence (Part 1)

Welcome to Day 3 of your NPQH with Inspiring Leaders

The aims of the day are:

  • To deepen understanding of the criteria for high quality teaching and learning.
  • To develop awareness of how headteachers lead, promote and foster this.
  • To explore the evidence from international research into successful school leadership.
  • To gather first hand evidence of organisational impact on enhancing teaching and learning.
  • To deepen understanding of the leadership implications to help participants prepare for their first headship.
  • To develop understanding of the strategies for improving the quality of teaching and learning.
  • To reflect on use of time and how changes in working practice can help relieve pressures of workload.
  • To explore government advice on reducing workload.
  • To reflect on implications for headteachers.

Pre-session Preparation

Task 1

Keep a log of things you’ve been doing for a week prior to the day.

Task 2

Please read the "Reducing Teacher Workload" pamphlet, by the Department of Education


Post-session Follow-up

Following Day 3, please complete the following tasks, relating to the "11 Best School Systems in the World":

Task 1

Find out why your allocated country has one of the best school systems in the world.

Task 2

Review your marking policy. To what extent is it manageable, meaningful, motivating?
